Slowest/Fastest Ratios

The only speed settings available for the Pan Axis and Tilt Axis are visible on the dashboard.

The way to adjust the available speeds on the dashboard is in the menu under Fastest and Slowest Ratios. This help article discusses how to adjust available speeds in the menu.

Fastest Ratio (Speed)

On the Dashboard, when you turn the speed all the way to the fastest, it will show you the fastest available speed ratio (by default it is 1:8). To make this ratio faster, such as 1:6, use Menu / Pan/Tilt / Fastest Ratio. After editing the Fastest Ratio return to the Dashboard and now you can turn the speed faster.

Slowest Ratio (Speed)

On the Dashboard, when you turn the speed all the way to the slowest, it will show you the slowest available speed ratio (by default it is 1:120). To make this ratio slower, such as 1:200, use Menu / Pan/Tilt / Slowest Ratio. After editing the Slowest Ratio return to the Dashboard and now you can turn the speed slower.

About Speed Ratios

In general, the Inertia Wheels try to maintain a classic geared relationship between the wheel and the camera. Historically, this was measured in a ratio of rotations. For example, 1:20 would mean for the camera to turn 1 x 360° rotation the wheels would need to rotate 20 x 360° rotations.

Ronin 2 Signal Clipping

Because the Ronin 2 uses S-Bus, there is a finite range of values the Inertia Wheels can send. For really fast speeds, such as 1:8, the *Inertia Wheels may max out the speed they send. To view this, look at the back of the Ronin 2. Go to Remote / Channel**, and observe the Channel sliders as you pan quickly. If the slider reaches the end, it means the signal is clipping.

To counteract this, perform two steps.

  1. Turn the speed down on the Inertia Wheels until you can move the desired Axis Wheel as fast as you want, and the signal does not clip on the Ronin 2. We suggest around 1:20~1:25. You can put the Ronin into Recenter Mode to avoid it moving while doing this.
  2. After that is set, on the Ronin, adjust the Remote / Pan (Tilt) / Max Speed until the gimbal moves at the desired maximum speed.

Keep in mind that in doing this, you are biasing the gimbal:wheel relationship towards high speed/large moves. Low speed/small moves may experience a loss in fidelity.
